We welcome you to the University, to Berkeley and to the Centre. We are a group of faculty wives and community women who are dedicated to helping you adjust to a new environment and to make your stay easy and comfortable.

The Centre meets weekly on Thursday mornings each semester from 9:30am to noon at the University YWCA at 2600 Bancroft Way. You have an opportunity to visit with other foreign visitors and volunteers of the Centre. At 10:15am we feature a special program. Following the program there is time to socialize and make friends. Special field trips to points of interest are offered during the year, as well as small discussion groups.

We encourage parents to bring their young children. You can meet other parents at our children’s play area. Parents are responsible for their own children. Coffee, tea and other refreshments are offered each week. Since the Centre is organized and staffed entirely by volunteers, we encourage you to volunteer in any of the many areas that create a successful Centre.

We recognize that this is a busy time for you and that settling down in a new place has its difficulties. You may have questions ranging from where to shop for special foods to how and where to send your kids to school. You may want to improve on languages or find some new activities. We are here as a resource for you to support you through your visit and to help you enjoy some of the cultural and recreational resources in Berkeley and California. Do join us. We look forward to meeting you.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us (please put one of our names in the subject line):  usectionclub@berkeley.edu, this email will be forwarded to one of us.
