MEMBERSHIP

Those eligible for REGULAR MEMBERSHIP in Section Club shall be:

1. Current and emeriti faculty and administrative officers of the University of California at Berkeley

2. Spouses or domestic partners of current, retired, divorced or deceased faculty and administrative officers of the University of California at Berkeley.

3. the following and their spouses or domestic partners;

a. Lecturers and senior staff listed in the UCB Campus Directory
b. Principal statewide officers and directors of UC statewide units residing in the Bay Area
c. Directors and assistants of bureaus, institutes, centers, museums, laboratories and other University divisions, listed in the University Directory
d. Senior staff members of Lawrence Berkeley and Lawrence Livermore Laboratories
e. Current UC Regents (ex-officio, emeriti and appointed) and officers of the UC Regents as listed in the UC Directory, living in the Bay Area
f. Visiting scholars and faculty (active or emeriti) from other educational institutions in the Bay Area
g. Dean and Faculty of the University of California at San Francisco and Hastings College of Law

Those eligible for ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP in Section Club shall be members of the community with no formal ties to the University of California who:

1. have demonstrated, as guests of the section or member of a Section Club service program, their commitment to the program of a particular section and/or to the welfare of the University and its students

2. have been nominated in writing to the Board of Directors by three members of a section or three Section Club members of a Section Club service program

3. have their nomination approved for membership by a majority vote of the Board of Directors.

Associate members may not number more than twenty-five percent (25%) of the regular membership of the Section

The first step in becoming an associate member is to get involved in one or more of our activity sections or volunteering for one of our sponsored services. To attend an activity section as a guest, contact the Membership Chair by emailing usectionclub@berkeley.edu. Please include your name and phone number and you will be contacted. Put "Membership" in the subject line. A good volunteer opportunity is available with the International Student and Scholar Committee at The Centre (Thursday mornings at the YWCA). Students and scholars from abroad and their families have a friendly place to meet and socialize.  Nominations are accepted and approved year-round, a sample letter is below.

ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP DUES are a tax-deductible $40.00 for a couple or $30.00 per person. Membership entitles you to all the Club-Wide Events and to join as many sections as you wish. In addition, individual activity sections make assessments for postage and other expenses. To contact a section chair send an e-mail to usectionclub@berkeley.edu and put the name of the activity section in the subject line. An invitation to the Fall Reception at University House and to become part of this organization is mailed in August to everyone eligible to join. Invitations to returning members are mailed to their home, the rest have their invitations sent to the mailboxes at work. (We welcome help in completing our mailing list.)

VISITING SCHOLARS

You and your spouse/domestic partner are very welcome to join our club. The University Section Club, Inc. is a wonderful way to enhance your sabbatical stay at UC Berkeley. We have over 400 members and we would warmly welcome you at any of the Activity Sections that interest you.

Our business year runs from July 1 through June 30.

YOU ARE CORDIALLY INVITED TO JOIN THE UNIVERSITY SECTION CLUB, INC.

Members may attend our Club-Wide Events, sign-up for individual Sections, volunteer and support the International Student & Scholar Committee or University Village, contribute to Grants for deserving students and/or donate to the S.O.S. (Services Offered Students) Fund, Elberg Emergency Fund or the General Fund. These donations will be acknowledged. All members receive our newsletter, The Breeze. Newcomers will be gladly welcomed at a special table at our Fall Garden Reception.
